Swiss Army Rolltop Rucksack - Leather & Canvas (1950s)
This Swiss Army vintage pack from the 1950s is an absolute wonder of Swiss design and craftsmanship in a truly beautiful but functional and robust mid-size rucksack.
Featuring thick full-grain leather straps, metal buckles, a roll-top closure, thick leather base and large front pocket these 1940s and 50s packs in the unusual dark grey-green canvas colour of the Swiss army of the time are now very rare - but they are absolutely stunning once reconditioned.
Working examples of these packs are rare, but when found the quality and craftsmanship is incredible. They are made of a tough but incredibly lightweight canvas, the stitching uses sinew for strength in places, the leather work is absolutely outstanding and the overall design so perfect for its use that they are able to survive the years so well.
Even at 70 or 80 years old these are probably only half way through their useful life, which is fruit for thought in our throwaway society.
Simply an outstanding and beautiful piece of history – that still functions as well today as it would have on its first outing, up in the high Alps of Switzerland.
Capacity: approx. 35-litres (expandable to 50 using the roll-top.)
